Vegan options are also simple to implement by using a flax egg and plant-based milk, making these rolls accessible to everyone. The possibilities are endless, allowing you to experiment and make these rolls uniquely yours!

Storing and Reheating Pumpkin Bread Rolls

If you find yourself with leftover pumpkin bread rolls (though it s hard to imagine they won t disappear quickly), proper storage is key to maintaining their fresh taste. Allow the rolls to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container. They can be kept at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, consider freezing them. Just wrap each roll tightly in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe bag. When you re ready to enjoy them again, simply thaw at room temperature and reheat in the oven for a few minutes. This will help restore their delightful softness and warmth.

Pairing Suggestions for Pumpkin Bread Rolls

These pumpkin bread rolls are incredibly versatile when it comes to pairing with various dishes. They can be served alongside soups, stews, or salads, adding a delightful contrast to your meal. For a heartier option, consider serving them with a rich and creamy dip, such as a pumpkin spice hummus or a savory herb butter. A drizzle of honey or maple syrup is also fantastic for those who enjoy a sweet touch with their bread. No matter how you choose to serve them, these rolls will enhance your dining experience and leave your guests asking for more.

The Health Benefits of Pumpkin

In addition to their delicious flavor, pumpkin is packed with nutritional benefits. Rich in vitamins A and C, pumpkin is known for its immune-boosting properties and benefits for eye health. The fiber content in pumpkin also promotes digestive health, making these rolls not only tasty but also a healthier option compared to traditional bread rolls. Incorporating pumpkin into your diet during the fall season is an excellent way to enjoy seasonal flavors while reaping the health benefits of this nutritious vegetable.

Yield: 12 Rolls

Ingredients

  • 510 g (4 ¼ cups) all-purpose flour
  • 240 g (1 cup) pumpkin puree (not pie filling)
  • 80 g (⅓ cup) butter (or vegan butter)
  • 160 ml (⅔ cup) milk (dairy or unsweetened non-dairy)
  • 50 g (¼ cup) light brown sugar
  • 10 g (3 tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 large egg or 1 flax egg
  • 1 ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground coriander
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter for brushing or melted vegan butter
  • Sliced pecans for stalks, sliced lengthways

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of an electric stand mixer, combine the yeast, ½ tsp of the brown sugar, and ⅓ of the milk. Whisk until the yeast dissolves and let rest for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the remaining milk, the rest of the brown sugar, pumpkin puree, and the egg (or flax egg). Whisk until well combined.
  3. Incorporate flour, salt, and spices into the mixture. Stir to form a rough dough, then mix on medium speed for a few minutes, gradually adding the butter one tablespoon at a time.
  4. Increase the mixer speed to high and knead for about 5-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic, pulling away from the bowl. If it s too wet, add a bit more flour.
  5. Transfer the dough to a large, lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Prepare two baking sheets lined with parchment paper. For scissors method, lightly oil scissors and make 8 evenly spaced cuts around each ball, leaving center intact.
  8. For string method, place a long piece of string on top of a dough ball, flip it over, and cross the string underneath to form a cross. Repeat until divided into 8 sections. Tie at the top and trim excess.
  9. Arrange shaped buns on baking sheets, cover with oiled clingfilm, and let rise until puffy, about 45 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). If using scissors method, use a wooden spoon to create a hole in the center of each bun. Bake for 20 minutes until golden and hollow sounding when tapped.
  11. Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then brush with melted butter and insert a sliced pecan into each for a stalk. Best enjoyed fresh!
